Control4 – Complete Smart Home Control - Madison Dealer

Complete Home Control

With Control4, you can start with just one room or automate your entire home all at once. Here are just a few ideas to turn your house into a smart home:
  • A “Wake Up” scene automatically adjusts the thermostat and gradually turns up the lights each morning.
  • A “Goodbye” button locks the doors, arms the security system, turns off all the lights, and adjusts the temperature on your way out.
  • While away, your Control4 system alerts you when your child arrives home from school or if there is a water leak detected in the laundry room.
  • A single remote or touch screen provides you with complete control of your entertainment system. As the movie starts, the shades close and the lights dim—automatically.

Air Conditioning Energy Savings – NEST Thermostat

NEST Thermostat Helps You Keep Your Air Conditioning Bills Down

With this summer expected to be a hot and sticky one across the United States, many like Becky Torres are planning to survive it by blasting the air conditioner and just suffering the hefty bills that will inevitably follow.
Torres, a stay-at-home mom, said she and her San Antonio, Texas, family used the air conditioner almost 24/7.

“Yes, I do,” she said. “Yes, I do.”

The Torreses spend a hefty $130 a month to keep cool but ABC News’ “Real Money” team uncovered a new and free gadget from the local energy company that could help them start saving up to 25 percent on their bill this season.

The average U.S. family spends nearly $400 between June and August cooling the house. And for every degree that a person lowers the AC, they raise the AC’s cost by about $24, according to Con Edison.

A Thinkeco smart AC kit connects to the air conditioning unit and allows homeowners to turn off the AC with their phone, even when they’re away from home and have forgotten to turn it up or off.
San Antonio resident Patrick Vick said he’d been using the Thinkeco gadget on an AC unit in his bedroom as well as another system called Nest, which lets him control his central air so he can see how much he is using and spending daily.

Vick said the gadgets had saved him about $75 a month for the last year and a half.
“We’ll do over $1,000 this year in savings,” he said.

Utility providers in New York and Baltimore are now offering free smart AC kits and Direct Energy, one of the largest suppliers of gas and electricity in North America, is now offering rebates on the Nest thermostat in Ohio and Illinois, with New Jersey, New York and Pennsylvania to come.
The kit is also available online for $140 and pays for itself in a little more than a summer season.
Torres, whose family could save $250 this year, said she found the Thinkeco smart AC “super easy.”
“I’m excited. I can’t wait to start saving money,” Torres said. “Every dollar saved is a dollar in our pockets.”

Amazing Speaker Cooler with iPhone dock, Blender, and more!

The Speaker Cooler…and Blender!

If you could design your dream cooler, what would it feature? A cutting board, a bottle opener, LED lighting? How about an on-board bluetooth speaker, a USB charger – and what the hell, a freaking blender? All of this and more is what you’ll get from the Coolest cooler, a new Kickstarter product that premieres today.

Updated 7/11/2014: We’re back with another update, and we’re guessing this won’t be the last. The project reached four times its funding goal in the first day, over $1 million on the second, and continues to lay on the afterburners. The current status as of publishing this update puts the funding at just under $2.5 million raised from over 12k funders, with 49 long days to go. We have no idea if the Coolest can continue at this pace, but if it does, it has the potential to match (or dethrone) the top Kickstarter projects in the history of the site. We’ll continue to keep an eye on this red hot cooling device, so stay tuned.

Spearheaded by product developer and entrepreneur Ryan Grepper, the Coolest truly has the potential to be a ridiculously badass purveyor of all things cold and mobile. Just looking at the feature set, the product feels like an impractical invention dreamt up in a college dorm room by bright-eyed idealists, whose chief concern in life is to find a way to take the party – the whole party – along for the ride. But impractical as it may have seemed even a few years ago, we’re looking at a whole new technological landscape these days, and the Coolest cooler just might have wings.
In all, the Coolest slaps on a veritable mountain of features, including:
  • A removable and waterproof Bluetooth speaker
  • A USB charger for your mobile device or speaker
  • LED interior lighting
  • Tie-down straps for hauling those floaties and blankets
  • A divider that doubles as a cutting board
  • A ceramic paring knife and plates that store in the lid
  • A bottle opener
  • Oversized tires to dig through rough terrain
  • And, yes, a fully-functional 18v blender with rechargeable battery

All of those amenities will cost you, however, even during the Kickstarter donation period. The early bird donation for the first 30 units will run $165, and the next lowest price tag starts at $185. From there, the price continues to rise up to the full $2,000 donation, which will fly Ryan Grepper out to your BBQ to tend bar, if that’s what you’re into. (The guy says he’s good with dogs and kids.)

Aside from the price, there’s another catch: This is take two of Grepper’s attempts to create the greatest cooler in the history of outdoor parties. The first try for the Coolest raised around $100K, but did not meet its funding goal. Then again, it raised $100,000 – in the dead of winter. This time around, the slightly pared-down version looks more affordable to manufacture, has a lower funding goal, and is launching in the middle of peak cooler season.
If you’re into the idea of drinking a fresh Margarita by the lake to the soundtrack from White Water Summer, you can help the Coolest reach its $50,000 goal by pledging today.
Updated 7/10/2014: This post was updated to reflect that the Coolest soared past its $50k funding goal in its first day to over $200,000, and pushed past $800k midway through the second day.
